For all intents and purposes, the championship in the Tom Stallard Junior Legion Tournament was played late Saturday afternoon when Dannebrog-Cairo-Boelus faced off against York in the battle of unbeaten at Kernel Field in Central City. DCB prevailed 1-0 in a pitchers’ duel between York’s Mason Wright and Casperson from DCB, the latter of whom threw a one-hitter. The only hit for York came off the bat of A.J. Beins (Benz), a sharp liner to center in the second inning. The only run of the game came in the second inning when DCB combined two hits with a wild pitch to cross the plate. The loss snapped a 10-game winning streak for York, the longest Cornerstone baseball streak in nearly two decades.
Junior record after the Saturday loss is 12-5. They won 10-0 over Albion and lost 1-0 to DCB.
